Ellen Jean Bowers Gann

With deep sorrow, our mother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend left this earth to be with her Lord and Savior in heaven on Sunday, September 20, 2026, and she was born on December 11, 1947, Albertiville, Alabama.

Ellen moved to Texas 1955 with her family to help start up Lone Star Steel Co. She started school at Ore City and graduated in 1966.  After graduation, she attended Kilgore College and East Texas State University. She received her bachelor's in science in 1970, then went to pursue her master's in education in 1975.

She had an interesting career in education. She was a 5th grade teacher or Ore City Independent School District, OCS Director, speech teacher, as well as coaching for high school volleyball where her team won district. She retired, then went back to work as a speech teacher in high school where she taught her students to excel in public speaking. She retired again in 2010.

Ellen was active in her church, Lakeview Baptist Church, where she was a pianist for many years. She was also active in the church's food pantry. She loved to sing when she was not playing the piano. She had a wonderfully godsend voice. Ellen was a member of the Ore City Eastern Star and she was a well-rounded, classy lady that everyone loved.

After a couple years of retirement, she loved being retired and enjoyed her only granddaughter "Ellie". She would tell us daily that was the most precious gift she could ever have gotten on earth. She loved spending time with her family, beloved husband M.S., and her dogs.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Stephen and Royal Gann. Her precious granddaughter Stephenne, which Nanna called her "Ellie"; her sister Deedra Dent, along with several nieces, nephews and cousins who she dearly loved.

She is preceded in death by her beloved husband M.S.Gann, her parents H.F and Gusterine Bowers of Ore City, Texas.

Services will be Saturday, September 26, 2026, at Croley Funeral Home Chapel in Diana, Texas at 10am with a visitation one hour prior to service with Brother Wayne Norvell officiating. Interment will follow at Ore City Cemetery.
