Darlene Bever Kovacs, age 86, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 26, 2025. Darlene was born on January 20, 1939, grew up in Beaulah, Kansas and attended nearby Cherokee High School. She was born to John Thomas Bever and Ruby Marie Spencer Bever and was the sixth of seven siblings all of whom preceded her in death, Harold Leslie Bever, Lavon Bever Rozell, Leonard Bever, Thelma Bever Davis, Velma Bever Covington and just this last December, her baby brother John Robert “Bob” Bever. Darlene was also preceded in death by her son, John David Crank, on January 29, 2018.
She is survived by her loving husband, Robert Kovacs who cared for her in their home until her passing, her daughter, Lara McFeely who lived nearby and many nieces, nephews and long time friends and relatives who knew and loved her. She is and will be greatly missed.
Darlene loved children and taught first grade in her early career. She continued to work in education, spending several years at Pittsburg State University in Pittsburg, Kansas in their Curriculum Department and later at the libraries of both Ambassador University in Big Sandy, Texas and Union Hill ISD in Gilmer, Texas.
God, family and music were the passions of her life. Darlene played the piano from a young age and encouraged her children to pursue music and love God as well. Darlene played for church and countless weddings while she lived in southeast Kansas. She later played for Grace Communion Church and First Christian Church in Big Sandy, Texas. Darlene also enjoyed being part of a seniors group that played music for nursing facilities in the East Texas area.
Darlene loved to spend time with her family, and to reach out to those who did not live near her. She liked hearing about their lives, and wanted them to share her faith in God. Darlene drew strength in her tough seasons from personal prayer, trusting in God and the support and prayer of those she knew throughout her life.
A Memorial service will be held at Grace Communion Church in Big Sandy, TX on June 21, 2025 at 11am. Grace Communion Church is located at 205 East Broadway Street, Big Sandy, Texas 75755.
She will be buried at Chilton Cemetery also in Big Sandy, Texas.
