Gerald Dobson Coker, Jr.

Gerald “Jerry” Dobson Coker, Jr. was born on February 23, 1947, in Long Branch, New Jersey to Gerald D. Coker, Sr. and Ada Wieber Coker. He passed away on July 7, 2025, in Hawkins, TX at his beloved North Star Ranch.

For most of his early life, Jerry was raised and attended Pine Tree High School in Longview, Texas. Growing up, Jerry learned to fish and grow a garden with his father and developed a love of reading as he was “encouraged” by his mother. Jerry grew up with three sisters, one older and two younger. Jerry was a proud graduate of Pine Tree High School, where he maintained close friendships with his classmates until his last days. He later furthered his education by earning a bachelor's degree at Stephen F. Austin University and building more life-long friendships.

Jerry had a brief, but commendable career after serving in the military in the 1970s. Upon moving back to East Texas, following his honorable discharge, Jerry dedicated himself to building a successful business in chemical services. Over his more than three decades of devoted service to Chem-Serv, Jerry made significant contributions to many businesses and schools throughout East Texas before eventually retiring.

Beyond his professional life, Jerry’s adventurous spirit led him to participate in diverse interests and hobbies that brought him joy. He cherished fishing trips with his father and with friends. Jerry was also an accomplished guitarist, writing both melodies and lyrics to original songs. He always enjoyed being outside, surrounded by nature. His passion for gardening was evident, as was his love for reading and especially for taking off on his traveling adventures. Jerry had a particular fondness for animals and shared a special bond with his dogs and cats, showering them with love and affection. His beloved dog, Annie, held a special place in his heart and lived to the remarkable age of over 22 years.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Gerald Dobson Coker, Sr. and Ada Wieber Coker, a beloved nephew, Brian Case, and brother-in-law, David Nivens. Those left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Gina Akin and husband, Stacy; his 3 sisters, Marcia Nivens, Jean Baker and husband, Jim, and Anita Myers and husband, Brooks; 2 grandchildren, Jordyn Namanny and Jeffrey Fannin along with 1 great granddaughter, as well as two nieces and four nephews.

A private Memorial and Scattering Ceremony will be held to celebrate Jerry’s adventurous life in September 2025.
