Gerline "Jerry" Tyler Hancock

Gerline "Jerry" Hancock of White Oak went home to Heaven on December 26, 2025, with her son, Don Allen & daughter-in-law, Judy, by her side. Jerry was born January 25, 1937, to Talley Howard Tyler & Canlis Worley Tyler in Readheimer LA. She enjoyed playing half-court basketball at Readheimer School. After graduation, Jerry moved to Shreveport to work at South Central Bell, alongside her sister, Merline. During this time, she met & married Don C. Cook. This union brought Jerry's greatest joy, her son, Don Allen Cook who was born in Madrid Spain while they were stationed there with the US Airforce. Once moving back to La., Jerry continued her work at the phone company, however, much else changed for her & Don Allen. In 1976, Jerry met & married the true love of her life, Joe Neil Hancock of White Oak, Tx. where she lived for 46 years until moving to Parkview on Hollybrook in Longview, Tx.

Jerry was affectionately known by her family as Nannie, a title she wore proudly. Family was of utmost importance to her. She spent countless hours cheering on her grandsons, Tyler & Justin, at their football, baseball, band & theater events. She also loved ALL things Elvis, attending many of his concerts at Louisiana Hayride. She was always on the go, running the roads with friends, Betty, Ruth, Pam or Linda, as well as her nieces, Toye or Debbie. She never missed her weekly trips to her hairdresser, Linda Morris, since 1969. It was often joked that "Go" was her middle name since she was too poor to have one. In the CB world, Nannie was known as "Texas Sweet Thang" & of course she would say it in the most syrupy southern drawl possible. The truckers on IH 20 between White Oak & Shreveport became her friends & fiercely protective of her as she commuted daily to & from work, eventually transferring to AT&T Longview. It was here where she retired in 1990 after 28 years of service. Nannie also developed many close friendships with the ladies of her Sunday School class at Emmanuel Baptist Church where she was active for many years.

In addition to her parents, Jerry was proceeded in death by her husband, Joe, stepson, Steve Hancock, as well siblings, Lois Mae Tyler Lowe, Williard "Bud" Alvin Tyler (Ethel), Merline Tyler Brown & Eloise "Weezie" Tyler Bogan (Leon), her niece, Sharon Carlene Long, nephew, Keith Bogan and life-long friend, Betty McCollough.

Jerry is survived by her son, Don Allen Cook (Judy), her grandsons, Don Tyler Cook (Rebekah) & Justin Clifford Cook, her great-grandchildren, Caleb Don Cook, Camden Michael Cook, Selah Carol Cook & Levi Tyler Cook, stepson, Freddy Hancock (Kelly), as well as numerous nieces, nephews & many extended family members.

The family would like to thank Parkview on Hollybrook Assisted Living (Amber & Trina) and Choice Hospice (Missy), and her special friend, Carol.

Viewing will be 10:00a.m. Saturday, January 3rd, 2026 at Emmanuel Baptist Church in White Oak, Texas, service starting at 11:00a.m., with a lunch following. Pallbearers will be Jim Long, Mike Long, Dale Bogan, Todd Long, Gary Shirley, Bing Canion. The family will have a private burial at Edward's Cemetery.
