Gregory Louis Mooney, or “Greg” as he was fondly known, passed away peacefully on October 21, 2025, just days shy of his 80th birthday. Born on October 25, 1945, in Greensburg, Pennsylvania, Greg was a man of deep faith, steadfast values, and an unwavering love for God, family, and his country.
A proud member of the U.S. Navy, Greg enlisted in 1964 after graduating from Gonzaga High in Spokane, Washington. Heserved his country honorably in Vietnam. His courage and dedication earned him the Purple Heart and several other medals during his service at Marble Mountain and in Da Nang—experiences that shaped the remarkable man he would become.
After his military service, Greg embarked on an extensive career as safety engineer in heavy construction, traveling the globe and contributing to major projects, including the building of a dam in Saudi Arabia. He later settled in Texas, where he spent many fulfilling years with Granite Construction Company in Dallas before launching his own consulting business, Greymoon Safety Service, in 2002. His passion for safety and education led him to being paramount in establishing the first heavy construction job fairs for local high school students in the Metroplex—a testament to his desire to give back to the community.
Greg was married to the love of his life, Terry Frazier, on October 15, 2021. Through this union, he embraced the roles of loving stepfather to Tobye Teague and Jody James, and cherished grandfather to his six-year-old granddaughter, Destini Teague. He loved them fiercely and considered them his own.
An avid golfer and fisherman, Greg truly enjoyed life. In 2014, he transitioned his golf membership from Hurricane Creek in Anna to Holly Lake Ranch, where he spent countless joyful hours on the course. Though he grew up in the Catholic tradition, after relocating to Holly Lake Ranch he was baptized at Hollybrook Baptist Church. His faith was an integral part of his life, with daily prayers alongside Terry and a special fondness for the verse Psalm 46:10.
Greg will be remembered as a wonderful husband, father, brother, and friend—a man with a heart as big as Texas who lived a life of integrity and hard work. He will be missed terribly by all who knew and loved him.
Greg leaves behind his beloved wife, Terry J Mooney; daughter, Tobye Teague (Richard Zepeda); sons Joseph Mooney, and Jody James (Charlene Taylor); grandchildren, Destini Teague Grimm, MD (David Grimm, MD), Trinity Mooney, Kimberlyn Mooney, Jordan Zepeda, Blair Zepeda, Aden Rogers (Taylee Rogers), Cagen Rogers, Harley Morgan, and Rosalie Morgan; brothers, Chris Mooney (Janis) and Gerald O’Mhuan; in laws, Jerry Davis (Beverly), Galen Davis (Jackie), and Fonda Davis; nieces, and nephews as well as tons of friends, extended family, and his favorite dog, Jake.
Greg is preceded in death by his parents.
Memorial services for Greg will be held at Hollybrook Baptist Church, Hawkins, Texas on Saturday, November 8, 2025 at 3:00 pm. Friends and family will gather to celebrate his life and share warm memories.
As we remember Greg, we take comfort in knowing he embraced life to the fullest and now rests peacefully.
