It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Heather Lewis Mormon on February 13, 2025. Born on May 15, 1971, in Waco, Texas, Heather lived a life full of love, laughter, and dedication to the people around her.
Heather was the cherished daughter of Richard "Dick" Lewis and Rosemeri Busby Lewis, who preceded her in death, along with her beloved husband, John Whitten Mormon, a retired military serviceman. Her family was the cornerstone of her life, and she is survived by her son, Brady Mormon of Waco, TX, and stepson Whitten Mormon of Eddy, TX. She also leaves behind her devoted sister Kelly and her husband Steve of Sonora, TX, as well as her sister-in-law Marilyn Mormon Wood of Suffolk, Virginia. Heather's legacy is further carried on by her uncles Jack Delaney of Robinson, TX, and Tom Lewis of Omaha, Nebraska. Additionally, she was blessed to have a special friend in Ronnie Williams of Chandler, Texas, who brought joy and companionship to her life.
Heather's journey through education began at the Mart Independent School District in Mart, Texas, where her passion for teaching blossomed. She later attended Texas State University, earning a degree in Family and Consumer Science, which propelled her into a fulfilling 30-year career in education. She began her teaching journey at Connally Independent School District and dedicated her later years to Bruceville-Eddy ISD, where she retired in 2022. Throughout her career, she was a proud member of several teachers' organizations, including the Family and Consumer Sciences Teachers Association of Texas, epitomizing her commitment to her profession and her students.
Beyond her professional achievements, Heather was a woman of warmth and generosity. She had a remarkable ability to open her home to others, often entertaining family and friends, and providing a welcoming space for young people in her community. Her kindness was matched only by her adventurous spirit. Heather had an immense love for travel, with a special affinity for cruising to far-off places, creating memories that she cherished deeply. In her most recent chapter, Heather's intrepid spirit found a new outlet through the exhilarating sport of off-road ATVing, introduced to her by her beloved ally Ronnie. Together, they fearlessly navigated the rugged, muddy trails that wound through the breathtaking mountainscapes of Broken Bow, Oklahoma, and Mena, Arkansas, embracing the thrill of the journey and the profound connection to nature that came with it.
Family and friends are invited to honor Heather's life at a graveside service, which will be held on March 15, 2025, at 11:00 AM with the Reverend Judy Tolbert officiating. The service will take place at Rosemound Cemetery, located at 3201 S. 12th Street, Waco, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to an institution of your choice, honoring Heather's love for education and her commitment to making a difference in the lives of others.
As we gather to celebrate Heather's life, we remember her as a loving mother, a devoted sister, a caring friend, and a passionate educator. Her spirit will forever remain in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her. She touched the lives of many, and her legacy of love and kindness will continue to live on.
