Hubert “Donald” Ormes, a man of strong character, hard work, and an unmistakable personality, passed away on Tuesday, September 22nd, 2026 surrounded by the love of those who knew him best. He is enjoying a reunion with his Heavenly Father and his Sweet Sissy.

Born and raised in the country, Dad grew up in a simpler time. His family did not have electricity until he was 10 years old, and those early years helped shape the man he would become. He was raised to be honest, work hard, and never hesitate to help someone in need. Those lessons stayed with him throughout his life.

Dad attended Harleton High School, where he was a four-year letterman in football, basketball, volleyball, baseball, and track. He carried that same determination and work ethic into adulthood. He later attended Kilgore College, where he majored in drafting. To help pay his tuition, he drove the Rangerette bus.

After college, Dad worked for the Highway Department before beginning a long career with Texas Eastman Company, where he became a senior draftsman and designer. He was a man who understood how things worked and, more importantly, how to make things work. There seemed to be very little he couldn't build, repair, or figure out.

On January 18th, 1964, Dad married the love of his life, Naomia “Sissy” Davis. Together they built a life and a family filled with memories, hard work, laughter, and love. Sissy was his partner through all the years that followed. He was exceedingly proud of his children – Shawn and Shanna.

Dad was a true craftsman. He could build just about anything, from rebuilding cars to creating beautiful pieces of woodworking. He was also a talented photographer and artist, with an eye for seeing things in his own unique way.

After retirement, some of his greatest joys came from the people closest to him. He treasured the time he spent as “Paw Paw” with his grandsons, his dear friend Johnny Mahurin, and his neighbor and adopted son, Dewayne Mabry. These relationships brought him tremendous happiness and gave him plenty of stories, laughter, and memories to carry with him.

Dad was opinionated—there was rarely any doubt about what he thought! But beneath that strong personality was a good man with a generous heart. He believed in doing things right, standing by the people he loved, and helping others when they needed him. He worked hard and loved deeply.

He leaves behind a legacy built not only from the things he made with his hands, but from the lessons he taught and the love he gave to his family and friends.

He is predeceased by his mother and father, Hubert and Faye Ormes and his wife Sissy Ormes. Those left behind to cherish his memory are his son and daughter-in-law, Shawn and Amy Ormes and daughter and son-in-law, Shanna and Ray Hatcher. Grandchildren – Harrison and Caleb Ormes, Haden Satterwhite and wife, Sandra, and Kennedy Hatcher. Great grandchildren – Rayden and Emma Satterwhite. A brother, Neil Ormes, along with numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

The family would like to give a huge shout out to our dad’s nurse, Kim Shofner, and the staff, especially Payton Knox, at Parkview Memory Care.

A graveside service for Donald will be this Friday, September 25th at 10 a.m at Smyrna Cemetery in Diana, Texas.
