James Franklin Harper, 77, of Gladewater passed away in Tyler on September 9, 2022. He was born on February 24, 1945, in Big Sandy, TX, the youngest child born to the late William Oscar Harmon Harper and Birdie Jewel (Eddins) Harper.

James grew up and attended school in Gladewater. He served his country in the US Air Force during the Vietnam War. Over the years, James owned and operated several different businesses. He worked as a Real Estate Broker, as well as an Insurance Agent. James was the Director of Gladewater Housing Authority for over ten years.

James served the Gladewater community he lived in, by serving on the Board and as an Officer for the Gladewater Lions Club, The American Legion, and the Gladewater Chamber of Commerce. He served for 24 years on the Starrville-Friendship Water Supply Corporation Board of Directors. James was also a proud member of the GMC Classics as well as becoming a 32-degree Mason with Gladewater Lodge #852.

James is survived by his beloved wife, Redonia (Hagood) Harper and his daughter, Kayla Redonia Harper. He is preceded in death by his parents, as well as his 12 older siblings.

In honoring James’ wishes, cremation will take place with no services scheduled.
