With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of James David Phillips, a son, father, brother, and friend, who left this world on December 25, 2025, in Tyler, Texas, following a courageous battle with cancer. James was born on December 17, 1957, in Corpus Christi, Texas, and spent much of his life as a beloved resident of East Texas.
James was not just a name on a certificate; he was a spirit full of love and laughter, memories, and stories. He attended John Tyler High School, where he made lifelong friendships and created countless memories. After high school, he proudly served our country in the United States Marine Corps for four years, demonstrating a dedication that would become a hallmark of his character.
James was preceded in death by his parents, Robert L. Phillips and Helen Marie Phillips (Crews), as well as his brother Douglas Phillips. Their memories will forever be a part of James's legacy. He leaves behind his daughter, Megan Phillips of Norfolk, Virginia. James is also survived by his loving sisters, Robin Phillips of Bradenton, Florida, and Becky Sinyard, along with her husband Jack of Ward, Arkansas, and his brother Mark Phillips and wife Kathleen of Mayfield Heights, Ohio. Each of them carries his spirit in their hearts, a reminder of the bond they shared.
As we gather to celebrate James's life and the indelible mark he left on all of us, funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 31, 2025, at 11 AM at Croley Funeral Home with visitation starting an hour prior at 10AM. Interment will be at West Mountain Cemetery.
A special thank you is extended to the wonderful team of caregivers at Greenbriar Nursing and Rehabilitation Facility, and Heritage Hospice, both of Tyler, Texas, who looked after James with compassion and dignity.
In lieu of flowers, those who wish may consider making a donation to Cardboard Heroes c/o Abigail International Missions PO BOX 451, Ben Wheeler, TX 75754. We will miss his laughter, his kindness, and the love he shared with every life he touched. Rest in peace, dear James. Your legacy lives on in all of us.
