James Michael Pilcher, Sr., lovingly known as Michael, of Gladewater, Texas, passed away on October 31, 2025, at the age of 68. Born in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Mary Lou and George Douglas Pilcher, on August 28, 1957. Michael's journey led him to East Texas at a young age, where he grew up in the Pritchett area.
From an early age, Michael displayed a natural knack for tinkering with mechanical things. Whether he was taking things apart just to put them back together again for the simple joy of understanding how they worked or honing his skills as a mechanic. His passion for fixing things was evident throughout his life.
Upon graduating from Union Grove High School in 1975, Michael embarked on a fulfilling career as a mechanic, with notable tenures at Lone Star Steel and various Ford Motor Company Dealerships. His dedication and expertise in the field were commendable, culminating in his retirement from J.O Williams Ford in 2024 after 18 years of loyal service as a Ford Senior Master Technician for 15 years.
Described as someone who "never met a stranger," Michael had a gift for connecting with people from all walks of life. His infectious personality and genuine interest in others meant that a simple errand often turned into long conversations with friends and acquaintances. Whether he was sharing his vast knowledge, mentoring others, or simply enjoying good company, Michael's impact on those around him was immeasurable. Outside of work, Michael's love for the outdoors shone brightly, especially when he indulged in his favorite pastimes of hunting and fishing. And anyone who knew him well couldn't overlook his love for food - especially good food. It was said that Michael never missed a meal, a testament to his hearty appetite and appreciation for life's simple pleasures.
Left to cherish his memory is his beloved wife, Wanda Pilcher of Gladewater, his brother Douglas Pilcher of White Oak, and his sisters Kathleen Pilcher of Gilmer, Vennie Sue Bass of Mineola, and Sheila Ann Hill of Gilmer. Michael's legacy lives on through his children, James (Helen) Pilcher Jr. of Gladewater, and Jarod Pilcher of Noonday, Ron (Anne) Kennedy of McKinney and Rhonda Kennedy of Laird Hill, his grandchildren Brandon Kennedy, Adam Kennedy, Cody Kennedy, Wesley Moses, Dakota Moses, Jordan Woods, Sean Pilcher, and Travis Pilcher, his great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
In his passing, James Michael Pilcher, Sr. leaves behind a legacy of kindness, generosity, and unwavering love for those he held dear. He will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. May he enjoy his eternal life with Jesus.
The family would like to extend a heart of gratitude to Heartsway Hospice for the care they provided for his journeys end.
Funeral services for Michael will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, November 5, 2025 at Croley Funeral Home Chapel in Gilmer. The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service. Interment to follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
