Jared "Mutley" Maddox

Gilmer mourns the loss of a beloved community member, Jared "Mutley" Maddox, who passed away on July 4, 2023, at the age of 58. Jared was born on July 23, 1964, in Gilmer, Texas, to Billy and Patricia McClelland Maddox. He was a lifelong resident of Gilmer and left an indelible mark on the town and its people.

Jared's journey began at Union Grove High School, where he received his education and formed lasting friendships. On March 24, 1988, he embarked on a noble career with the Longview Fire Department, serving as a Fire Driver/Engineer for 28 years until his retirement on April 3, 2016. Even after retiring, Jared's passion for firefighting and commitment to his community remained unwavering. He continued to serve with the Gilmer Fire Department, dedicating himself to the safety and well-being of those around him.

In 2012, Jared and his family ventured into a new chapter of their lives by owning and operating Firehouse 9 Farm and Event Center. This establishment became Jared's great love, where he found solace and joy spending time with his friends and family. Whether it was firing up the grill or cooking for those he cherished, Jared's warm hospitality and delicious meals brought people together, creating cherished memories.

Jared leaves behind a legacy of love, compassion, and dedication. He is survived by his devoted wife of 32 years, Trish Maddox, who stood by his side through thick and thin. His parents, Bill and Pat Maddox, of Gilmer, provided a loving foundation for his life. Jared's daughters, Jessica Hilton and her husband Kevin of McKinney and Raigan Maddox and Mark Williams of Gilmer, will forever cherish the lessons and love their father bestowed upon them.

He is also survived by his sisters, Jeri Maddox of Carrollton and Jimi Murray and her husband Troy of Gilmer, who shared in both the joys and challenges of life alongside Jared. His grandchildren,  Lily Ann Williams, Adlee Jo Hilton, and Brayden Williams, brought immeasurable joy to his heart. Additionally, he is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and his brotherhood of Fire personnel, whose bonds he held dear.

To honor Jared's memory, a visitation will be held on Friday, July 7, 2023, from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Croley Funeral Home of Gilmer. A funeral service will take place at 10:00 AM on Saturday, July 8, 2023, at the First Baptist Church of Gilmer, with Bro. Wayne Norvell officiating. Following the service, interment will be held at Glade Creek Cemetery.

Jared "Mutley" Maddox's departure leaves a void in the hearts of those who knew him. His selfless dedication to serving others, both as a firefighter and as a pillar of the community, will be remembered for generations to come. May his soul find eternal peace, and may his loved ones find solace in the beautiful memories they shared with him.
