Obituary

Jason Thomas Grote (“J J”), 39, beloved husband, father, son, and friend, passed away on May 8, 2026. Born on February 15, 1987, in Metairie, Jason lived a life defined by passion, talent, generosity, and deep love for his family and friends.

Jason was a true craftsman in every sense of the word. Over the course of twenty-one years, he became an accomplished welder, electrician, innovator, and problem solver. Gifted with both creativity and determination, Jason could build nearly anything from the ground up. He approached every project with relentless drive, sharp intelligence, and pride in doing things the right way.

But beyond his talents, it was Jason’s spirit that left the greatest mark on those around him. His enthusiasm for life was infectious, and his passions were as vast as the ocean he loved so deeply. Whether fishing, scuba diving, or coral farming, Jason found peace and purpose on the water and joy in sharing those experiences with his sons.

Cooking was one of Jason’s greatest expressions of love. The kitchen and the grill were places where he brought people together. He never missed an opportunity to teach, share, or create something memorable for the people he loved. From mini cooking lessons to carefully preparing everyone’s favorite dish at family gatherings, Jason made every meal feel special. He was known for hosting unforgettable crawfish boils and for smoking and grilling meats to perfection — talents refined through years of culinary schooling and a genuine love for feeding others.

Jason married the love of his life, Kassie Trammel Grote, on March 4, 2017, in a beautiful ceremony on the Louisiana Bayou. Their love story began years earlier, when Jason first began pursuing Kassie in 2009. Together, they built a life rooted in love, laughter, adventure, and unwavering devotion. Some of their favorite moments were spent together on the water in Delacroix or enjoying date nights at beloved local spots like Drago's Seafood Restaurant and Crazy Johnny’s Steak House.

Jason’s greatest pride and joy was becoming a father. He and Kassie welcomed their first son, Grant Thomas, in 2020, followed by their second son, Charles Edwin, in 2022. Jason adored his boys and embraced fatherhood wholeheartedly, sharing with them the passions, knowledge, and love that defined his life.

In 2024, Jason and Kassie relocated their family to Texas to pursue a simpler country lifestyle and build the next chapter of their lives together.

Jason will be remembered for his larger-than-life personality, his generosity, his fierce love for family, and his ability to make everyone around him feel welcomed, fed, taught, and cared for. His absence leaves an immeasurable void, but his legacy lives on in the countless lives he touched and, in the family, he loved so deeply.

Jason is preceded in death by his parents, Darlene Marie Nuccio Grote and Edwin Thomas Grote, Jr. He is survived by his sister, Angela Grote Stawski, brother-in-law, Michael Stawski III and their children, Michael, Dominic, Liam and Stella Stawski.

Memorial services will be held in Metairie, with details to be announced.
