Jerry Carl Loyd

Born December 31, 1938 to Carl George Loyd and Gladys Willeford Loyd, both farmers in Stamps Community.  He was raised in the cotton, sweet potato, corn, caster bean, peanut and ribbon cane fields.  They also raised white faced Hereford cattle, “down the way” along Gum Creek. 

Jerry would plow the fields with Elliot and Emma a brown and a reddish tan mule team. Every year at the Yamboree, Jerry would enter a calf, corn or sweet potatoes and won first place many years.

Jerry and his daddy cleared fields by hand and in conjunction with the county extension agent they introduced coastal Bermuda to Upshur County on the family farm.

Jerry worked at Upshur Rural Electric and Texas Eastman for many years and continued to farm part-time.

Jerry passed from this life on Monday, January 30, 2023.  He was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters Helen Smith and Irene Martin and granddaughter, Pamela Ann.  He is survived by Betty Loyd and two daughters Jeri Lynn Robbins and husband Keith and Karen Brunson and husband Tim.   Grandchildren are Jared Brunson and wife Becky, Will Robbins and his fiancé Sarah, Rachel Crabtree and husband Todd, Brooke Morris and husband Jarod and Cody Robbins.  Great grandchildren, also known as, “his babies” include Addi, Kye, Faith, Uriah, Kelly, Barrett and Dawson.

There will be a visitation on Tuesday, January 31, 2023 at Grubbs-Loyd Funeral Home in Diana, Texas.  Services will be held in the Grubbs-Loyd Chapel in Diana on February 1, 2023 at 2 pm.
