Jerry Windell Powell was born on a snowy January 22, 1940, in Harrison County, Texas to George and Eula Powell. He entered his heavenly home on a snowy January 24, 2026, as his devoted wife held him in her arms.
Jerry attended Harleton school where he met the love of his life, Wanda Lou Standley. After graduation, as salutatorian of his class, he and Wanda were married. They shared over 66 wonderful years of love and devotion to each other.
Jerry retired from R.G. Letourneau in 2002 after 43 years as a valued employee. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, gardening and working around the beautiful home and acreage.
He and Wanda have attended Longview First Assembly since 1979. They loved serving in their church and volunteering in the food pantry, greeters, ushers, Sunday school teachers and children’s church.
He will be remembered for his kind heart, gentle nature, contagious smile and loving ways. Jerry was always friendly and willing to help. He was a soft spoken, honorable man that always set a good example and always encouraged others. He impacted many lives of family and friends. He never faltered in his faith and devotion tohis Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Left to cherish his memory are his devoted wife Wanda Standley Powell, sister Annie White and husband Larry of Lindale, Texas, several nieces and nephews and a multitude of friends.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Monday, February 2, 2026, at Longview First Assembly at 2 pm.
The family would like to thank Chamber’s Hospice and their staff for all their care for Jerry.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Longview First Assembly in Jerry’s name.
