Joann Smith

On Tuesday, June 13,2023, Joann “Mama J” Smith was called to her eternal home at the age of 78.  Joann was born August 23rd,1944 in Dandridge, Tennessee but grew up in Knoxville, Tennessee.

Joann worked as a lithographic stripper from 1965-1993 before moving to Gilmer, Texas.  

She was an active member of Glade Creek Baptist Church in Gilmer, Texas, where she led worship for 20 years until her passing.  In her time at home, she loved reading and taking care of her many animals.  She loved to travel, dance, spend time with family and friends, watching and participating in anything her grandkids were involved in, and having fellowship with her church family.

She was preceded in death by her parents Joe and Gladys Haynes, Sister-EulaMae Lewis, Sister-Dorthy Haynes, Brother- Jim Haynes and her husband of 18 years- James Smith.

She is survived by Sister- Louise Dunn (husband Leroy), Brother- Larry Davis (wife Anita), God Son- Chris Partain (wife Tiffany), God Daughter- Angela Partain, Step Children E.J. Smith (wife Shelly), Kelli Bean (husband Jeff), Krystal Smith (husband Jason), 16 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Glade Creek Baptist Church, Gilmer, Texas.
