John passed Sunday after years of battling several types of cancer. He never lost his faith in God and the Catholic Church. he was devoted to the Mother Mary, St. Joseph and the Holy Spirt. He was dedicated to the ministry for praying with those who needed healing. John was born to Peter Joseph and Mary Frances McGrane in Toledo, Ohio.

As a boy, he attended St. James Catholic grade school. He played baseball and basketball at the neighborhood park with his brothers. He loved going to his grandparent's farm during the summers. He attended St Francis of DeSales High School where he exceeded in academics, track, and football. He worked at Mercy Hospital during high school and began caddying to earn spending money, this is where his love for golf began. John's college career began at Kent State studying for a Liberal Arts degree. He was part of the Kent State track team and was a member of Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity. After the riots at Kent, he transferred to Bowling Green State where Nitja was attending. There he earned his undergraduate degrees in Political Science and Business Administration. He went on to earn and MBA in Public Administration / Business from University of Toledo.

He met Nitja in high school and dated through college then married in June of 1972.

He started his career in the City of Toledo in 1972, as the Controller for Chief Accounting Office. In 1984 he accepted a position as Executive Director of Finance in Denton Texas. In 1994, he moved to Plano in the position of Executive Finance Director where he spent the next 14 years. He later retired from the City of Grapevine in 2015, as the Executive Administrative Service Director, where he served a non-electoral position on the City Counsel working closely with the Mayor and City Manager.

He loved sports, playing golf, fishing, boating and traveling and especially enjoyed do-it yourself projects. He loved telling jokes and one liners and had personality that was contagious. He loved watching the sunsets at the lake. Most of all he was a devoted father and grandfather and loved spending time with his family.
