John Thomas McKeehan, 77, of Diana, returned to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, August 16, 2024, while participating in one of his favorite pastimes – fishing on the lake. He was born on October 1, 1946, in Port Smith, Virginia to the late James E. McKeehan and Margaret (Lawrence) McKeehan. John married Audrey Broadus in 1968 and together they enjoyed 56 years of marriage.
Coming from a military family, John proudly served his country in the Marine Corps. One of his talents was having the “gift of gab,” which he was able to use to become an excellent salesman, working for GTE and Spartan Chemicals. As mentioned, one of John’s favorite pastimes was fishing on the lake, but he also found greater joy in being a “fisher of men” as a follower of his Savior, Jesus Christ. John was a long-time member of Walnut Creek Baptist Church, where he shared one of his other great talents singing, which he loved to do. His love for God and work for Christ, was followed closely by a love for his wife, Audrey and his family, and was shown as they would each study the Bible in the morning, at the table, over their coffee, and then move out to the porch to have discussions about their studies.
John is survived by his beloved wife, Audrey; children, John T. McKeehan, II and his wife, Shelly, Peter McKeehan, Kim Higginbotham and her husband, Michael; grandchildren, Maddison McKeehan, Triston McKeehan, Autumn McKeehan, Hannah Higginbotham, Micaiah Higginbotham, Caleb Higginbotham, Elisha Higginbotham, Jospeh Higginbotham; great-grandchildren, Jaiden, Jaxson, Junior; brother, James E. McKeehan; as well as many other extended family members and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, James McKeehan and Margaret (Lawrence) McKeehan and his sister, Mary McKeehan.
A memorial service for John will be held on Saturday, August 24, 2024, at 10:00 am at Walnut Creek Baptist Church in Diana.
