John E. Tabor

John E. Tabor passed away on October 10, 2025, at the age of 90. Born on November 2, 1934, in Nashville, Arkansas to Alfred E. Tabor and Pearl M. Leighton Tabor.

John was a passionate advocate for youth sports in the Gilmer area. For over 20 years, he dedicated his time and energy to the Gilmer Little League and Dixie League Baseball, serving in a variety of roles. His commitment as a coach, umpire, field maintenance crew member, and board member showcased his love for the game and his desire to nurture young athletes. His outstanding contributions were recognized when he proudly represented Texas on the Dixie National Board of Directors from 1987 to 1989.

John’s life was marked by resilience and deep commitment to his beliefs. After the passing of his first wife, who was the mother of his children, he relocated to Hope, Arkansas. There, he became an active and cherished member of Unity Baptist Church, where his love for gospel music shone brightly.

He cherished his time singing in the choir and participating in the church's nursing home singing ministry, bringing joy to many through his love of music. His musical talents were further expressed in his involvement with a gospel group.

In 2021, John returned to East Texas, taking up residence in Gilmer, where he remained until his passing. He continued to be a member of Enon Baptist Church.

Those left to cherish his memory are his son, Jimmy Tabor and wife Marianne; grandchildren, Jace Tabor and wife Phylesha, Kadie Henderson and husband Greg; great grandchildren, Payton Tabor, Judson Tabor, Phynlee Tabor, Andie Henderson and James Henderson; step great grandchildren, Skylar Hawthorne and Conner Hawthorne.

John is preceded in death by his parents; wives, Mae Tabor and Dottie Tabor; daughter, Judy Holleman; bonus son, Jeff Blackstone and great granddaughter, Preslee Tabor.
