Obituary

Joy Dunn Evans, 90, Of Gladewater Texas, passed away peacefully at home on September 30, 2026. 

Joy was born on November 19, 1935, at home in Arp, Texas to Henry Duncan Barron and Annie Melvie Dean. 

Joy will be remembered not only for the love she gave but also for the lasting impression she made on their lives. Her laughter, stories, strength, and especially her love for her family and friends, will be remembered forever. 

An example Of her servant heart began at the front desk, welcoming and offering comfort to those who entered Gladewater Municipal Hospital. As the years progressed, she moved into various positions until finally making her way into becoming the hospital administrator. Working at the hospital for 35 years brought her a sense Of pride and fulfillment in giving back to her community. 

Joy is survived by her daughter Terrie Dunn, son James Dunn & wife Sandy, grandchildren Corey Dunn & wife Tish, Kyle Dunn & wife Jamie, Crystal Hawkins & husband Jesse, and Heather Hebert, and chosen granddaughter Candace Herrera. Great grandchildren, Holli, Colton, and Hunter Dunn. Ava Callejas, Jackson, Hudson, and Anniston Hawkins. Abby, Liam, and Bentley Hebert. Sister Bonnie Harris and sister-in-law Beverly Barron. And a host of nieces and nephews.

 She was preceded in death by her parents Henry Duncan Barron and Annie Melvie Dean, her first husband Charlie Dunn and her husband of 40 years Robbie Evans, sisters Sharon Gibbs, Frances Williams, Mary Shaw, Peggy Lewis, Emma Lee, and Bertha Jane Fulton. Brothers Jacky Barron and Duncan Barron. 

The family would like to extend our deepest appreciation and heart felt gratitude to Joy's Caregiver, Jessica Puffer, who cared for her so lovingly during the final year of her life. Her compassion, patience, kindness, and unwavering dedication brought comfort and peace To Joy and to our entire family. We will always be grateful for the loving care she provided and for the relationship she shared with Joy. Your presence during this difficult time was truly a blessing to us all.

 Visitation will be at 1:00 pm on Thursday October 8th at Croley Funeral Home in Gladewater Texas. The service will start at 2 pm after the visitation. Following the service, Joy will be laid to rest in a private family burial at The Dunn Family Cemetery.
