Joyce Ann Hightower

Joyce Ann Hightower, a beloved mother, grandmother, and caring friend, passed away on August 29, 2025, at the age of 92. Born on November 6, 1932, in Scottsboro, Alabama, Joyce was the daughter of A.P. and Alice Guffey. She spent her early years in Alabama before moving to Gladewater, Texas, for her senior year of high school, where she would ultimately plant her roots. 

After graduating, Joyce began her career at the Gladewater Telephone Office. On November 2, 1952, she married Maurice Hightower, and together, they created a legacy with Hightower Jewelers, a cherished fixture in the Gladewater community for many years until their retirement in 1995. 

Joyce was involved in various organizations, including Cub Scouts, Blue Birds, Campfire, and the PTA, as well as the 3 Arts Club. She was known for her reserved demeanor yet radiated love, kindness, and thoughtfulness to everyone she met. Her passion for baking birthday cakes, sewing, and crocheting brought joy to her family and friends alike. 

Joyce joins her beloved husband, Maurice, who she shared 68 wonderful years with. She is preceded in death by her parents, A.P. and Alice Guffey, as well as one sister and one brother. She leaves behind a loving family, including her children, David Hightower (Donna) and Brenda Allen (Ronnie), along with her cherished grandsons, Ryan and William Allen. Joyce is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, and three sisters, one brother.

Rest in peace, Joyce. Your love will live on in the hearts of those you have left behind.
