Juanita Mildred Whitlock

Juanita Mildred Whitlock, 83, of Big Sandy, TX, passed away peacefully on May 31, 2023, in Tyler, Texas. She was born on December 27, 1939, in La Pryor, TX to the late Harvey and Maggie (Mayfield) Greer.

Juanita enjoyed being a stay-at-home mom for her children. Her past-times included painting, sewing, working on crossword puzzles and singing. Juanita spent many years serving as a Sunday School Teacher at the Big Sandy Church of Christ as well as Holly Lake Church of Christ. She was most recently a long-time member of the Lyles Street Church of Christ. Juanita was deeply loved by her family and friends, and will be sorely missed.

 Juanita is survived by her husband of 65 years, G. Alton Whitlock; sons, Rex Whitlock, Willy and his wife Beverly Russell; daughters, Cindy and husband Robert Turner, Angela Powell; sisters, Madeleine Greer, Aquilla Phelps, grandchildren; Debbie and her husband Michael Reed, Richard Jeremy Wilson, Nicole Wilson, Anthony Sanders, Amber Everett, Alan Leman; and great-grandchildren Marie Reynolds Reed and Kaylee Wilson Reed, as well as many other extended family members.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Harvey and Maggie Greer; brother, James Harvey “Buster” Greer; sister, Margaret Greer Starr  and  son-in-law, Ron Powell.

Funeral services will be held at Croley Funeral Home in Gilmer, Texas on June 4th, 2023, starting with the viewing at 1:00 pm followed by a funeral service at 2:00 pm, with Homer Davis officiating. Interment will take place at Chilton Cemetery in Big Sandy following the services.
