“A wife of noble character who can find? She is worth far more than rubies. “Proverbs 31:10"
Lawanda Faye Kimball, 86, of Holly Lake Ranch passed away peacefully at her home. She was born in Austin, TX during the Great Depression, which taught her the value of being a virtuous woman.
She was a petite, dark haired, blue-eyed head turner, who was always stylish and beautifully dressed. Wanda was always fashion conscious. Wearing mini-skirts and “That Girl “ flip hair-dos when she was younger. In recent times, knitted cardigans and long skirts were her choice.
As a high school senior in Austin, TX, Wanda was in the chorus club. When she would be at the front door kissing her date goodnight—Linda & Paula, her sisters would hide inside to watch. She would get upset with them but they always thought it was funny.
Wanda's professional career was as a bookkeeper and business woman. Her daughter and her started a successful flower shop in River Ridge, La which served the community and Brides in multiple states for 21 years. Wanda served her community both at the ARC working with special needs children and in the children’s ministry at her church. It was hard to slow her down.
Wanda had a passion for singing and was a member of Sweet Adelines in New Orleans and Lake Of The Pines, Texas . She was always singing and would even be found to be singing while ironing and various tasks around her house. Wanda loved musical greats like Tony Bennett and Johnny Mathis as well as various country music artists.
She loved and served her husband Robert until his death. She sacrificially took care of her developmentally disabled daughter all of her life.
Wanda liked old movies and recent series like Ice Trucker and Ninja Warrior. She would be up many Saturday nights when her daughter would come home from a date, where they would enjoy them together.
She touched the lives of many that knew her with her generosity. She will be remembered for holding her sister’s hand to comfort her, and for always having a full candy jar and pantry to share with others.
Wanda is survived by her daughters Dana Chastang, son-in-law, Marcus Chastang of Jefferson Texas, Sandy Kimball of Holly Lake Ranch, two sisters Linda Thurman and Paula Wilson (her cousin who became her sister), and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Willie Thurman and Casey Herman, brothers, Will Thurman, Jerry Thurman, Ronnie Thurman.
A graveside service will be held on Monday, July 21, 2025 at Glade Creek Cemetery at 10:30 AM.
