Linda Sue Eddington

Linda Sue Eddington, 77, surrounded by the love of her family, passed from this life into eternal rest on December 31, 2025, in Texarkana, TX. She died after a lengthy battle with dementia. A graveside service will be held on Friday, January 9, 2026, at 2:00 PM at the Union Grove Cemetery under the direction of Croley Funeral Home of Gladewater with Sean Eddington and Don Stanland officiating. All are welcome to join the family and attend one last gathering after the service at The Eddington homestead located at 11739 US HWY 271 S, Gladewater.

Born Linda Sue Jerden to Bill and Joyce Jerden on April 14, 1948, in Hawkins, TX, she was the apple of their eyes, a beloved daughter and sister to her three adoring brothers. She was raised in Hawkins, the place where she would later meet her one true love, Eddie Wayne Eddington. They married on June 20, 1964. They would soon move to Union Grove and raise a family, which would include three sons, Robin, Shelby, and Jason.

Sue, as she was called by family and friends, became a fixture in the Union Grove community. She spent countless hours volunteering at the school as her sons grew up. When they took the field, she could be found cheering for Lions baseball and football. She also helped with their participation in the FFA. If her sons were involved, she would be there eager to assist and give a reassuring hug to them and to their friends.

Sue did not meet a stranger. She was known for her hospitality and made everyone feel welcome in her home. She always had room for one more at her table. She would gladly whip up cookies or cakes, maybe even both! She showed her love by making sure no one left her home hungry. She enjoyed a bustling house, and it was in those moments when she was the happiest. The memory of family dinners, family reunions, and kids romping all around never faded from her mind even as dementia stole her ability to remember day to day.

Sue was also known for her unwavering care for her parents as they aged and for her care of her husband, Eddie, in his final years. She was dedicated in all that she did, whether it was for family or in her many years of working at Dr. Hamer’s office in Longview, TX. She would be the first to arrive and get the office started for the day then she would greet the staff and the patients with her dependable smile.

If you were lucky, you got to hear her infectious laugh when she got tickled over something. That laugh came more often and more easily when her grandchildren and great grandchildren came along. She was a doting Grannie and enjoyed her time playing with them and reading to them. She enjoyed spoiling them with her famous sugar cookies.

Sue impacted others. She made a difference in the lives of the people around her. She treated everyone with respect and kindness. She was always willing to give a smile, a helping hand, an encouraging word, and a chastising word, if needed!

Sue and Eddie had over 50 years together. They raised a family. They worked hard. They traveled. They experienced heartache and joy. They persevered. Through it all was Sue showing love, grace, fortitude, excitement, and strength. The depths of her influence are going to be fully realized as life on this earth continues without her.

Those left to cherish her memory and carry her legacy in their hearts are her son and daughter-in law, Jason and Rhonda Eddington of Union Grove; son, Shelby Eddington of Union Grove; grandsons and their wives, Sean and Kayla Eddington of Genoa, AR; Chase and Hayley Eddington of Dallas, TX; Brett and Madisyn Eddington of Conway, AR; Dustin and Lauren Hardin of Harleton, TX; Colin and Clarissa Hardin of Union Grove; granddaughters and their partners, Heather Moore and Michael Irwin of Gilmer, TX; Johnna Eddington and Matthew Frierson of Heber Springs, AR; and granddaughter, Raegan Hardin of Dallas;12 great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Joyce Jerden; her husband, Eddie Eddington; her son, Robin Wayne Eddington; her grandsons, Skyler Reece Eddington and Zachary Wayne Eddington; brothers, Billy Joe Perryman, Doug Perryman, and Ray Perryman.
