Luke 23:43

We're gathered here today to remember and celebrate the life of an extraordinary man, Loyd Allen Jones Jr., who passed away on March 9, 2024. Known to his loved ones as a devoted family man, Loyd leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter that will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Born on February 8, 1937, in Overton, TX,  Loyd proudly served his country as a US Army veteran, embodying honor and dedication throughout his life. He was a skilled pipeline welder and mechanic, finding joy in his work and sharing his talents with those around him. A lover of bluegrass music, he could often be found strumming his guitar, filling his home with melodies that warmed the hearts of his family and friends.

"Pap or Pappy" cherished his family above all else, finding happiness in the simple moments spent in the company of his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchild. His sense of humor, generosity, and willingness to lend a helping hand endeared him to all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

In his free time, Pappy enjoyed traveling, tending to his yard and garden, and regaling those around him with stories of days gone by. His beloved dachshund, Bella, was a constant companion, sharing in his adventures and providing comfort through life's ups and downs.

Pap is survived by his sons, Loyd Allen Jones, III and Martin Dale Jones; daughters, Molly Lucrecia Burns and Beverly Denise Smith; 11 grandchildren, Martin Jones, Jr., Candy Scally, Matthew Jones, Loyd Jones, IV, Frank Jones, Robin Bozeman, Justin Burns, John Jones, Matt Smith and Dylan Smith, 10 great-grandchildren,  Alissa Harper, Kasi Harper, Hurley Shipley, Jason Bozeman, Kinnedy Harper, Kindyl Harper, Frank Jones, Jr., Klara Jones, Mera Smith and Arthur Smith and 1 great great-grandchild, Lawson Taylor. Also a special mention of Malcolm Thomas, a life-long friend of 75 years, whom he met when they were 12 years old.

Loyd met the love of his life, Verdena "Dena" Harroff in 1951 when they were 14 years old.  Their love story was one of total devotion from the time they met until her passing in 2002, after 47 years of marriage.  Loyd was also preceded in death by his parents, Loyd and Frances Jones, his wonderful sister, Dolores Rustenhaven and grandson, Thomas Lynn Harper, Jr.

As we come together to honor the memory of Loyd Allen Jones Jr., let us remember the joy he brought into our lives and the love he shared so freely. Visitation will be held at 10 o'clock a.m. at Croley Funeral Home, Gilmer, TX with services following at 11 o'clock, allowing all who knew and loved him to pay their respects and bid farewell to a truly remarkable man. Burial will be at Gladewater Memorial Park.  Loyd, may your spirit live on in the hearts of all who were touched by your kindness and light.
