Maxey Lee Swanner, 82, of Big Sandy, Texas passed away September 7, 2026. Maxey was born March 11, 1944, in Winnsboro, Texas to Oscar Lee Swanner and Nettie Goolsby Swanner.

Maxey truly had a servant's heart and found joy in serving the public. After high school, he proudly served in the United States Navy. Upon his return, he was the owner and operator of Swanner Hardware and Lube in Big Sandy for many years. He served as a member of the Big Sandy Volunteer Fire Department, was one of the original founders of the Big Sandy Chamber of Commerce and served on the Big Sandy City Council. Maxey was an active member of the Cross-brand Cowboy Church in Tyler. His greatest pleasure was spending time with family and friends.

Maxey is survived by his son, Bobby Rowland and wife, Susan, daughter, Lori Swanner, grandchildren, Joshua Ward and wife Jessica, Jalyn Smith and husband John, Tiffany Dotson and husband Robert, and grandchildren, Payton Ward, Christopher Smith, Shawn Dotson, River Smith, Kayson Dotson, Asher Smith, and Hudson Dotson

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Julia Swanner son, Tracy Swanner, and sister, Jeanette Hodges.

Graveside Services for Maxey will be Friday, September 11, 2026, at 10:00 AM at Chilton Cemetery in Big Sandy, Texas under the direction of Croley Funeral Home in Hawkins.
