Melba J Kelley, a cherished and gentle soul whose life was marked by love, kindness, and dedication, passed away peacefully at home on March 13, 2026. Born on August 21, 1932, to Jesse and Hazel Stanley, Melba lived a life filled with heartfelt devotion to those she held dear and to the community she served.
Melba's professional journey was one of steadfast commitment as she worked diligently for the Civil Service as a secretary. Her work ethic was a testament to her dependable nature and her desire to contribute meaningfully to the world around her. Yet, it was her warmth and loving spirit that truly defined her.
Family, church, and friends were the cornerstones of Melba's life. She found joy and comfort in the simple beauties of nature and the deep connections forged through faith and cherished relationships. Her kindness extended beyond words; it was woven into every action, every smile, and every moment she shared.
Those who had the privilege of knowing Melba remember her as a beacon of love and kindness, a steady presence. Survivors include her son, Steve Kelley; nephews, Robert Stanley and Wayne Hearron; a niece, Judy Floyd; three grandchildren, Jon Floyd, Thomas Floyd, Sam Stanley; special friends, Dwight and Wendy Day, and her loving caretaker, Kayla.
Those preceding her in death are her parents, Jesse V. and Hazel V. Stanley; her husband, Winston L. Kelley, and all of her brothers and sisters.
A graveside service to honor Melba’s life will be held on March 17, 2026, from 2:00 PM until 3:00 PM at West Mountain Cemetery, located on Hwy 271 North between Gladewater and Gilmer, Texas, 75645. Family, friends, and all who knew her are invited to gather, share memories, and celebrate the remarkable life she lived.
Though Melba has departed from this world, her spirit of love and kindness will continue to live on in the hearts of those she touched so deeply. Her legacy is one of grace and warmth, a precious gift that will be treasured forever.
Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, at 2:00 PM at the West Mountain Cemetery.
