Melvin Ralph Small, of Gilmer, TX, passed away Monday, February 16, 2026. A devoted Christian, husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Melvin lived a life defined by faith, service, and love for his family and community.

He was instrumental in the building and growth of the Upshur County Shares Food Pantry, faithfully dedicating his time and energy to helping families in need throughout Upshur County.

Melvin is survived by his beloved wife of 70 years, Ora Lee (Hanson) Small; his sister, Sandra Lloyd of Skiatook, Oklahoma; his children, Belinda Menasco and husband Marc of Montgomery, Texas; Pam Edge and husband Tom of Gilmer, Texas; Melanie Lambdin, and husband Kevin of Tulsa, Oklahoma; Kelli Creed of Gilmer, Texas; and Tim Small of Gilmer Texas; along with 22 grandchildren, many great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered for his steadfast faith, generous heart, and enduring devotion to his family

A Celebration of Life will be held on March 6, 2026, at 3:00 pm, at First Baptist Church Gilmer. All are welcome to visit with family and friends from 2:00 to 2:45pm.

The family has requested that remembrances be made in the form of contributions to Upshur County Shares, 106 S Montgomery St, Gilmer, TX.
