Michael E. Formby, age 74, of Gladewater peacefully passed away on Sunday, November 29th at Longview Regional Hospital. He is survived by the love of his life of 47 years Diana Formby, two sons (T.J. and Adam) and their wives (Lauri and Elisabeth), brother Donald Formby and wife Cherryle; sister-in-law Pat Formby-Hamilton and six beautiful grandchildren (Lauren (19), Greyson (17), Faith (17), Dane (16), Sydney (16), Reese (13).
Born in Kilgore and son to the late Noble “Foots” and Marcella Formby, Michael “Mike” and his twin brothers, Ron and Don called Gladewater home for a great part of their lives. He was honored to serve his country during the Vietnam War by enlisting in the Air Force from 1968-1972. Within just a few months of returning home from Vietnam, he met Diana and they were married the following year.
Mike was very involved with the community and served on the Gladewater City Council and served two terms as the president of the Gladewater Rotary Club (1985-1986 and 2008-2009). He was beloved by so many and will never be forgotten. Mike will be forever remembered for his quick wit, joy and ability to light up a room with his loving presence. In a few days prior to his passing, Michael gave his life to the Lord and his family would like to thank all those who have been a constant source of love and support during the last several months.
Due to COVID-19, a Celebration of Life will be delayed until safer times for the family, friends and community to gather together and celebrate Michael’s life properly. Mr. Formby passed away Sunday, November 29, 2020, in Longview.
In Lieu of flowers, the Formby family would appreciate a donation in Michael’s memory to the Gladewater Rotary Club.
