Nancy Trent, age 85, passed away peacefully on November 10, 2025. She was born in Palestine, Texas on May 27, 1940, to Travis and Ozetta Simons.
Nancy met and married the love of her life, C.A. “Peddler” Trent. They were married 69 years. She married young and started a family right away. She was a loving mother of three daughters. In her early life, she first lost her father and then her only sister tragically, but she learned to keep going. As her husband transferred for business purposes many times, Nancy was always faithful to support him and make any place they lived a home. In their early years, she was the stay-at-home mom, cooking, cleaning, canning, and making all her girls’ clothes.
Nancy was a creative soul from the very beginning. She was always giving her time to others. She made her daughters’ and granddaughters’ dresses for dances, proms and pageants. She was happy in the kitchen, where she prepared meals for family and friends. Her cooking was an act of love, from everyday dinners to holiday spreads. She was known for her squash relish, salsa, So-Good pie, gumbo and chalupas.
In her later years, Nancy—being creative and business-minded—bought a gift shop in Hawkins, TX, naming it Trents’ Trellis. Eventually, she became a florist and made hearts happy with her beautiful floral arrangements. Her business became a landmark on the corner at the red light and was known as Hawkins Flowers by Trents.
Giving was truly her heart, always willing to give anything if it brought you a smile or made your day a little bit better (except for giving away her “secret” recipes).
There were many sides to Nancy. Yes, she loved cooking and sewing, but she also loved being outdoors, gardening, hunting, fishing, raking leaves & burning, cooking on the grill and camping.
Until their health failed, both Nancy and C.A. were faithful in their church attendance and serving. She served as chaperone at camps and youth trips, being the one who would help console a sick or struggling young lady. She was also the cook for numerous snow ski trips and enjoyed sitting in the lodge and talking with people.
Nancy was preceded in death by Travis Simons (father), Ozetta Hobson (mother), Pearson Hobson (stepdad), Wanda Jean Simons (sister), Sarah Anne Mayne (granddaughter).
She is survived by C.A. Trent (husband), her three daughters Charlotte Stephens, Brenda Barkley (Bil) & Bridget Thompson (Cody), her stepson Clarence Earl Trent (Mary Ann). Grandchildren: Rebekkah Edleman, Ginny Hall, Christina Barber (Joey), Angela Pennington (Travis), Michael Edleman (Ashley), Drew Barkley (Rachel), Meagan Smith (Weston), Austin Mays (Kelly), Danielle Thompson, Tanae Allegrezza (Josh), CJ Thompson and 21 great grandchildren with one on the way, and one great-great grandchild!
Services will be held at Croley Funeral Home in Hawkins Texas on Thursday, November 13, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. After the funeral, a private graveside service will be held for the immediate family only.
