R. D. 'Bob' Tullar

Gilmer -- Services for R. D. "Bob" Tullar, 76. of Big Sandy, will be held on Saturday, February 7, 2015, at 10 A.M. at Grubbs-Loyd Funeral Home with Kenneth Tullar officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Born in Vom, Nigeria, on September 1, 1938, he passed away on Monday, February 2, 2015. His parents were the Reverend L. E. Tullar and Inga Olive Tullar. He and his siblings, Allen, Phillip, and Virginia were schooled by their mother. At the age of fourteen, he came to the states and attended and graduated from Longview High School . He was very active in the ROTC and National Guard. He enlisted in the United States Army and was stationed in Stuttgart, Germany. He then met the love of his life, Ruth Sofie Junker, and they were married in Germany on January 31, 1958. Their first son, Leslie, and first daughter, Joanne, were born in Germany. He was later transferred from Germany to El Paso and discharged in July 1961. They came to East Texas to make their home and to add Kenneth, Linda, and Tina to their family. They moved to Pritchett where they have resided for the past forty-one years. Mr. Tullar was self-employed as an A/C Heat Refrigeration technician, retiring at age 65. He continued to do odd jobs around his home and thoroughly enjoyed life and his retirement years. He is survived by his wife, Ruth Tullar; sons, Leslie Tullar and wife, Tina; daughter, Joanne Stevens and husband, Phillip; son, Kenneth Tullar and wife, Lorye; daughter, Linda Tullar Curtis and husband, Mickey; daughter, Tina Tullar Hardin and husband, Dan; 11 grandchildren, Leslie Jr Tullar and wife, Jessica; Jeremy Tullar and companion, Stormy Helpenstill; Tabitha McCain and husband, Cody; Brittney Tullar; Joseph Curtis, Freddy Curtis, Isaiah Curtis, Taylor Hardin, Cheyenne Hardin, Katelynn Hardin, Daniel Hardin; 6 great-grandchildren, Keely Russell, Brinlee McCain, Kinzley Tullar, Bridgett Tullar, and Ray and Jaycee Jonsef; brother, Phillip Tullar and wife, Joanne; sister, Virginia Fedder; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Allen Tullar. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 P.M. on Friday, February 6, 2015, at Grubbs-Loyd Funeral Home in Gilmer.
