Reta Diane Lewis Steelman, of Gilmer, TX, passed away from complications of breast cancer with family by her side on Friday, October 4, 2024 which was also her 80th birthday. Reta will forever be a bright, guiding light to her family and loved ones.
Born in Brazoria, TX on October 4, 1944, she was the daughter of the late Andrew Lewis and Gladine (Blackwell) Coffey and sister to Robert Coffey who also preceded her in death. Reta was married to Thomas O. Lewis. They raised their family together until Tom’s death in 2010. Reta was highly regarded in her career as Director of Risk Management for Pier One Imports as well as holding executive positions in national Risk Management organizations. After retiring, Reta made her home in Gilmer and started a new chapter in her life, marrying Clovis Steelman in 2018 enjoying new adventures and serving her community and church.
Reta is survived by her loving husband of six years, Clovis Steelman; children, Pam and Craig Greenberg of Mount Vernon, TX, Scott and Nonie Lewis of Fairbanks, Alaska, and Michael and Mary Catherine Lewis of Houston, TX; and grandchildren, Cameron and Lindsey Greenberg, Garrett Greenberg, Christopher Lewis, and Kara Lewis.
Visitation will be Monday, October 7, 2024 from 5-7PM at Croley Funeral Home Chapel in Gilmer. Funeral Service will be Tuesday, October 8, 2024 at 11AM at First Baptist Church in Gilmer followed by a graveside service at Sulphur Springs City Cemetery beginning at 2PM.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Reta’s memory to First Baptist Church of Gilmer, TX or to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation.
