Richard "Mike" Michael McDaniel

Richard “Mike” Michael McDaniel passed away on June 22, 2025, in Gilmer, Texas. He was born on August 21, 1949, in Dallas, Texas to Lawrence and Effie McDaniel.

Mike pursued his education diligently, obtaining a bachelor’s degree in political science from Stephen F. Austin University.

He began his career at General Dynamics before venturing into the auto industry, where he became a respected sales manager in Fort Worth and locally. After years of working in auto sales, Mike retired and chose to dedicate his time to education and became a substitute teacher at Gilmer. His passion for teaching and shaping young minds brought him joy and fulfillment in his later years.

Outside of work, Mike had a profound love for fishing. Those who knew him can surely recall stories of his countless hours spent outdoors.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Ouida (Risinger) McDaniel of Gilmer; father, Lawrence McDaniel and wife Betty; son, Clayton Walker McDaniel and wife Jennifer of Woodstock, GA; daughter, Lacy Gayle Lynch of Denton; brother, Dr. Randy McDaniel and wife Jill of Gilmer; stepchildren, Lauren Michelle McLaren and Steve Thrower of Leicester, England, Allison Casner and husband Jerry of Houston; grandchildren, Paige, Hudson, Callie, Samantha, McKenzie and Dane; along with extended family and friends.

Mike was preceded in death by his mother, Effie (McKenzie) McDaniel.

A memorial service will be held at Croley Funeral Home Chapel on Wednesday, July 16, 2025 at 2:00PM.
