Rita Jean Wood

Rita Jean Wood, age 69, former longtime Gladewater resident, passed away peacefully in her Longview, Texas home on January 27, 2024. Rita was born in Tyler, Texas to Fred and Patsy Houston on June 2, 1954. 

Rita had been a Gladewater resident since 1956 and graduated from Gladewater High School in 1973. Over many years, Rita enjoyed participating in the Special Olympics. From working the concession stands to participating in most sporting events; her favorites included walking and bowling with her husband of thirty-nine years, Doug Wood, originally from Dallas, Texas. Dearly loved and a one-of-a-kind person, Rita will be greatly missed by many. 

Rita was preceded in death by her parents, longtime Gladewater residents Fred and Patsy Houston. 

Rita is survived by her husband Doug Wood of Longview, aunts; Darlene Gage and Rebe Kelly, nephew-in-law; Troy S. Wood, niece-in-law; Jennifer Wood-Stark, great niece-in-law; Liberty Faith Wiggins, special cousin, and “sister”; Noda Roberson, as well as numerous other family members. 

Scheduled funeral services for Rita; 1:00 PM Friday, February 2, 2024, at Clarksville City Baptist Church; burial will follow at Gladewater Memorial Park. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral service.
