Longview, Texas

Private graveside services will be held for Roddy Mayo Hailey 80, of Longview, Texas Sunday, February 19, 2023 at Smyrna Cemetery with the Rev. Craig Evers officiating.

Roddy and Linda made their home in Harleton since their marriage on October 21, 1989, but had recently moved to Longview, Texas in 2021.  Roddy passed away Wednesday, February 15, 2023 with his loving wife at his side, as well as family and friends.  His special little "Lap buddy" Bella was with him also.

Roddy was born January 8,1943 in Pittsburg, Texas to Joseph Mayo Hailey and Lauris Opal Ridings. He married Linda Watts Morris October 21,1989, in Longview, Texas. He attended Longview High School, but transferred his senior year and graduated from Jessie H. Jones, in Houston, Texas. Roddy then attended SFA University.  He received his journeyman electrical license after completing a four year apprenticeship program with I.B.E.W. (International Brotherhood of Electrician Workers).

Roddy was a member of Smyrna Methodist Church.  Left to cherish his memory include his wife Linda Hailey, two sons Ryan and wife Nikki, Clint and wife Amy. Daughter Brandy Leigh Coffman, Jennifer Jones and husband Brandon and son Matthew Morris and wife Misty, eleven grandchildren several nephews, and many, many friends.  He was preceded in death by his daughter Amanda Francis Hailey Hill, a sister Charlotte Samson, His father Joseph Mayo Hailey and his mother Lauris Opal Hailey.

Roddy loved hard work.  After receiving his electrical license, he went to work for Stroh's Brewery for 20 years.  When the brewery closed in 1999, he and Linda went to where the work was.  They bought a small travel trailer traveling to Oklahoma, Arkansas, Pennsylvania as well as Maine.  Linda recalling this as "some of the best times"

Roddy loved to fish and hunt all kinds of game, especially ducks.  He had a dog "Sam" he trained and was especially fond of.  He was a kind man with a warm smile, always willing to lend a helping hand.  He enjoyed taking his friend Buddy Clowers, to buy groceries.

Roddy was a hardworking man in his community and his church.  He taught an adult Sunday School class for several years.  The standard response when people were talking about Roddy, was what a sweet man he was and how much they always enjoyed talking to him.

Roddy would never boast, but his Christianity was evident in his day to day walk with Jesus.

Roddy will be so very missed by his family, his friends and community.  He will be missed by Bella, but we thank Jesus that he has been made whole again and we have the promise that we will be reunited again.
