Rodney Lee Renoud, age 82, entered into eternal rest on July 13, 2025, at his home in Gilmer, Texas. Memorial services, with full military honors, will be held at a later date.
Rod was born on September 13, 1942, in Sweet Home, Oregon to the late Lloyd Earl Renoud and Lila Bernice Jarmin. He lived a life marked by dedication, service and an unwavering commitment to his country and community.
A proud veteran of the United States Army, Rodney’s twenty-year military career included service in Viet Nam, the Cuban Missile Crisis, and many other locations during peaceful times. Rodney left military service having achieved the rank of E6 and having been awarded the following awards: National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (Korea), Viet Nam Service Medal with one Silver Service Star and two Bronze Service Stars, Republic of Viet Nam Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal Clasp, Bronze Five Loops, Vietnamese Cross of Galantry with Palms, and Expert Rifle Badge.
Following his time in military service, Rodney continued to embody the spirit of service by becoming active in volunteer firefighting, and assisting Texas Game Wardens and the DEA in multiple unofficial operations to protect his community.
Rod worked as a target device servicer with Fort Hood Range Control for fifteen years. His tenure there was marked by a strong work ethic and a resolute dedication to his responsibilities, earning him respect and admiration from colleagues and the community he served.
Rodney is survived by his wife, Elli Renoud; his son, Roddell Renoud; daughters, Sherryanna VanZandt and Teresanna Cook; brother, David Renoud; sister, Gwendolyn Fotchman; his wife’s adult children, Keith Stephenson, Sandra Stephenson Koonce and Leeza Bruce; nineteen grandchildren; twenty great grandchildren; and seven great- great grandchildren.
Rodney was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Richard Renoud; and an infant sister, Yvonne Katherine Renoud.
