Sioux Ellison Johnston

Sioux Ellison Johnston, 73, of Brownsboro passed away peacefully at her home on August 8, 2023. Sioux was born on September 14, 1949, in Latch to the late Robert Ellison and Editha (Tutor) Ellison and was the baby sister to her four older brothers.  At the age of 15 she married Gene Loyd Johnston, who was 17, on April 17, 1965, in her parents’ living room, behind their country store in the community of Latch.  They were married for 27 years until Gene’s passing on November 29, 1992.

Sioux was an artist of life with many talents and a collector of beautiful things.  She was well known in her small town for her avid storytelling and captivating writing. Most of these stories were shared on social media and shared amongst many groups. Recently she was working on a Bonnie and Clyde book. She always had a passion behind the lens of a camera, to capture that moment and to have to treasure. She was also very passionate about her family's genealogy and worked hard to pass on her knowledge and importance of family. Sioux loved her essential oils, crystals, natural herbs and natural home remedies. She had a vast knowledge of so many things. She leaves behind a legacy of beautiful stories and experiences.  As the matriarch of the family, Sioux loved and cherished her faith, family, and friends. She will be missed for her free-spirited love and acceptance that she had for everyone.

Those left to cherish her memory include her daughters, Regina Champagne, Sylvia Cline, Suzanne Johnston, and Connie Johnston; grandchildren, Marie, Casey, Misti, Ashley, Vicki, Roscina, Adam, Cherea, Brittany, Breaze, Amber, Greg, Gene and Kameron; her brother, Hilton Ellison; her loving nieces and nephews, Sheila, Julie, Kenneth, Tara, James, Bobby, Patty, Adam, and Aaron; as well as many other extended family members and dear friends.

Sioux is preceded in death by her parents, Robert Ellison and Editha (Tutor) Ellison and her husband, Gene Loyd Johnston; and brothers, Jerry Ellison, Don Ellison, and Wendell Ellison.

Funeral service for Sioux will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, August 12, 2023, with Pastor David Jackson and Pastor Donny Chamberlain officiating at the historic Old Country Church at Lafayette, where a visitation will be held one hour prior to the services.  Following the service, Sioux will be laid to rest next to her husband in the Concord Cemetery in Upshur County, Texas.
