Stanley Joe Davis, 71, of Longview, Texas, passed away peacefully on September 2, 2026.

Stanley was born on February 1, 1955, in Austin, Texas to John Davis and Erlinda Amezquita. He proudly served his country as a United States Marine and went on to dedicate his life to working as a maintenance engineer. He was a hardworking man who took pride in providing for his family and the work he did.

Long before he became known for his love of fishing and barbecue, Stanley was already making a name for himself in Austin. As a young man, his tamales became legendary among family, friends, and neighbors, earning him the unforgettable nickname “The Tamale Kid.” His love for cooking stayed with him throughout his life, and feeding the people he loved was one of the ways he showed how much he cared.

Stanley found joy in the simple things in life. He loved spending time fishing, cooking, and especially barbecuing. He was also a lifelong Dallas Cowboys fan and could always be counted on to be screaming at the television in joy or frustration when football season came around. Above all, Stanley treasured his family and the memories made with them.

He is survived by his children, Maeghan Davis, Travis Davis, Taylor Holcomb, and Garrett Davis; his sister, Jenette Terrazas; and his eight grandchildren, who brought great joy and pride to his life.

Stanley was preceded in death by his parents, John Davis and Erlinda Amezquita.

His family will remember him for his strength, hard work, humor, his love of good food and football, and the countless memories created around the kitchen, the grill, the water, and with the people he loved.

A memorial service celebrating Stanley’s life will be held on October 31, 2026, in Big Sandy, Texas. Additional details will be shared by the family.

Though he is no longer with us, Stanley’s memory will live on through his children, grandchildren, sister, and all those who had the privilege of knowing and loving him.
