It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Thomas John Stahl on August 3, 2025, at the age of 80. A husband, father, grandfather, teacher and a servant to his fellow neighbor. Born on July 14, 1945, in Chicago, IL. Tom suffered from severe dementia and while his passing is sad, it is a blessing that he passed so quickly to avoid years of prolonged disconnection with the world, family and friends.
Tom spent his last few months in Texas with his son, Jonathan, where he created several important cherished memories with him and his grandchildren by going to the local zoo. He had a deep passion for photography, capturing the beauty of the landscapes he encountered during his travels across America. Whether he was venturing through majestic mountains or wading in the ocean, he always had his camera in hand, eager to document the moments that made life special. He spent 25 years in Huntington, IN. teaching the youth in 4H club all about firearms with a consistent focus on safety first.
Those who knew Tom will remember his big handshake, a gesture that spoke volumes about his warm heart to serve where he could. Always ready for a chat, he could engage anyone in conversation, and talk well past bedtimes.Tom is survived by his wife, Shirley Ann; his son, Jonathan Stahl; his daughter, Precious Stahl; stepchildren, Matt Ward, Dawn Ward, and Davina Long. He is also survived by his brother, Gene Stall, and 9 grandchildren in Texas: Devon, Connor, Braden, Katie, Avery, Alexi, Sierra, Eva, and Gabriel Michael, each of whom held a special place in his heart.
As we reflect on Tom’s life, we take comfort in knowing he lived a life of adventure when he could. His laughter, his never-ending stories, and his love of the one true Creator.
